Ways to get a Higher rank In Search Engine

There are a BILLION web pages indexed by the search engines, what is your website/company doing in order to be found?
Early search engines, such as the Altavista, ranked pages based on page content and formatting and based on the content of metadata tags. Special attention was paid to bold text or to keywords and summaries in the head of the HTML document

Webmasters figured this out years ago, They packed their pages with irrelevant material to trick the search engines, gaining a high rank. There is very little to be gained by setting keyword and summary metadata in your pages. Then Google came and changed this. Its result was based on true link popularity.

Some points to follow to get a high ranking in Search Engine

Find the right keywords, key phrases

Find key phrases that people actually search for. Use Google Adwords to estimate how saturated the market is for that keyword phrase. Because after all you are filling the search engines databases with relevant keywords. Focus each page on one keyphrase. So make your pages focused. Learn how to optimize your pages. For example, make sure your key phrase is in the title and H1 tags.

Get quality incoming links

Quality means both that the page linking to you is related to the topic your page is about, and that the actual link text contains your keywords. It is also important that you grow your links in a "natural" fashion. Add pages and incoming links on a regular basis.

Don't be spammy

You may think you have a way to fool the search engines into ranking you higher, but trust me, it's been done. The only way to win this game in the long run is to build your site, from the ground up, as a quality, content-rich site that is worth linking to.

Include sitemaps, alt tags and robots.txt files to guide search engines/spiders.

The links are important, though. Especially to Google. Yahoo and the MSN Beta seems to give content related factors more weight in my experience. But even with Google the key to your success doesn't lie in links alone. If you want traffic through search engines you must get the basics right too.

Its all about keyword density, the ratio of the word someone searches for against the total numbers of words. Most blog posts are rather short, and they're often about one subject. That means a good chance of a high keyword density, if you compare them with a standard website where you try to tell about all your products on one page, or very few pages.

Hi Jason,

Myers left a comment on my blog post – http://www.strategicmarketsegmentation.com/blog/3-09-page-rank-changes-f... – about getting a two Page rank increase with a link to your site. So I thought I'd check it out.

You have some good information on Page rank here. My page rank is only a two, but I get almost 10,000 visitors a month. I do a better job of on-site SEO than off site. I recently wrote a post on how I get traffic at http://www.strategicmarketsegmentation.com/blog/how-i-direct-more-traffi....

I plan to read more of your posts before leaving.
