Twitter brought the online social networking to 140 characters by asking a simple question — what are you doing right now? The next level of social networking asks a similar question — where are you right now?

Twitter has begun rolling out location-based trending topics.

The product is officially called Local Trends. In a statement, Twitter said the following:

If you are an avid surfer, a web enthusiast, you might already know what i am going to talk about. Twitter's Search is the most widely used example of this buzzing technology. What real-time means is that the content gets indexed as soon as it is published and is ready to be searched out for.
